Business Entry Visa

The Qatar Business Entry Visa is a short-term permit for professionals travelling to Qatar for commercial purposes - meetings, contract negotiations, conferences, site visits, training or exploratory market research - rather than to take up paid local employment. It is the standard route for foreign businesspeople whose work in Qatar is intermittent and project-based.

A Qatari host - a registered company, government entity or event organiser - usually sponsors the application by issuing an invitation that explains the purpose and duration of the visit. The visa is typically issued for short stays of around 30 days, frequently extendable, and may be single or multiple entry depending on the category. It does not permit you to work for a Qatari employer or draw a local salary; for that you need a work residence permit. The business visa rose sharply in importance around major events and Qatar's National Vision 2030 diversification drive, as the country positions Doha as a regional hub for finance, energy services, sport and conferences. For many companies it is the first practical step before deciding on a permanent local presence.

You need a genuine business purpose and, in most cases, an invitation or sponsorship from a Qatar-based company, government body or recognised event organiser. The invitation should state the nature of the visit, its duration and who bears financial responsibility.

Applicants need a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, with blank pages for stamping. You may be asked for proof of sufficient funds, confirmed return or onward travel, and accommodation details. Nationals of some countries can use Qatar's visa-on-arrival or electronic travel facilities for short business trips, while others must apply in advance. The visa does not require a medical fitness test, since it does not grant residence. It cannot be used to perform paid work for a Qatari entity - that would breach its conditions.

Step 1: Confirm your trip is genuinely business-related and identify your Qatari host or sponsor, who will normally initiate the invitation.

Step 2: The sponsoring company applies through the Ministry of Interior's Metrash2 app or the official MOI portal, or you apply through the Hayya/visa platform if eligible for an e-visa or visa-on-arrival.

Step 3: Submit your passport copy, a passport photograph, the invitation letter and any requested financial or travel evidence.

Step 4: Pay the applicable visa fee online.

Step 5: Receive the electronic visa approval, which you carry digitally or print for travel.

Step 6: Enter Qatar within the validity window and observe the permitted stay; if your business requires longer, apply for an extension through the MOI before the visa expires. The process is largely paperless and, for sponsored applications, often completed within a few working days. Keep the invitation accessible, as immigration may ask to see it on arrival.

Business entry visa fees are modest - generally QAR 100-200 for the visa itself, with multiple-entry categories costing more. If processed through a sponsoring company, the host typically pays. Visa-on-arrival facilities for eligible nationalities may be free or low-cost. Extensions carry a separate fee, usually QAR 100-200. Budget also for mandatory or recommended travel and health insurance covering the trip, plus any service charge if you use an agent. Because the visa does not grant residence, there are no medical-test or ID-card costs.

Sponsored business visas applied for through the MOI portal or Metrash2 are typically approved within two to five working days. E-visa and visa-on-arrival categories for eligible nationalities can be near-instant or granted at the airport. Processing is slower if the invitation lacks detail, the purpose of travel is unclear, or additional security checks apply to certain passports. Extensions should be requested well before expiry, as last-minute requests risk overstaying. Travelling around major Doha events can lengthen review times.

On arrival, present your passport and, if requested, your invitation letter and return-ticket evidence to immigration. The business visa lets you attend meetings, conferences and training and conduct negotiations, but not perform paid work for a Qatari company.

Keep track of your permitted stay - overstaying incurs daily fines and can affect future entry. If your business requires a longer presence, apply for an extension through the MOI portal or Metrash2 before the visa expires rather than leaving and re-entering. Should the engagement turn into a permanent role, your host will need to convert your status by sponsoring a work residence permit, which involves a medical test and Qatar ID. Carry travel insurance documentation and maintain contact details for your Qatari sponsor in case immigration follow-up is needed.
