What is the Barbados digital nomad visa?

The Barbados Welcome Stamp is a 12-month special entry permit launched on June 30, 2020 by Prime Minister Mia Mottley as a response to COVID-era remote work demand. It is administered by the Barbados Immigration Department under the Welcome Stamp Act of 2020. The Welcome Stamp grants holders the right to live and work remotely from Barbados for one year, with the option to apply for a renewal. Tax treatment

Welcome Stamp holders are explicitly exempt from Barbadian income tax on foreign-source income for the duration of the visa. How to apply - step by step

The Welcome Stamp application is one of the smoothest digital nomad visa processes in the world. It is fully online, English-language, and typically decided within a week. Most applicants are approved before they even buy plane tickets.

1. Gather documents: passport (6+ months validity), digital passport-style photo, employer letter or business ownership documents proving USD 50,000 annual income, international health insurance certificate valid in Barbados for 12 months.
2. Visit the official Welcome Stamp portal at welcomestamp.bb and click Apply Now.
3. Complete the online application form (about 30 minutes). Provide personal details, employment details, family details (if including dependents), and travel plans.
4. Upload all supporting documents as PDF or image files. Submit the application.
5. Wait 5 to 7 working days for the decision. Approval arrives by email with payment instructions.
6. Pay the Welcome Stamp fee: USD 2,000 for an individual or USD 3,000 for a family unit (spouse and/or children, regardless of family size). Payment by credit card via the portal.

Family and dependents

Barbados is unusually family-friendly for a DN visa: a single Welcome Stamp family fee of USD 3,000 covers the primary applicant plus a spouse and any number of dependent children (under 26 if in full-time education, otherwise under 18). There is no per-dependent fee and no income uplift for family members. The primary applicant's USD 50,000 annual income covers the whole family unit.

Each family member is added to the same application and must show a passport, photo, and proof of relationship (marriage certificate for spouse, birth certificate for children).
