2026 cutoff scores by category:

• General draws: 515-540 CRS (highly competitive - most candidates need a job offer or PNP nomination).
• French language proficiency: ~395 CRS (the easiest direct path in 2026; B2 French alone gets most applicants in).
• Healthcare occupations: 467 CRS (nurses, doctors, paramedics, PSWs).
• STEM occupations: 491 CRS (software engineers, data scientists, electrical engineers).
• Trades: 433 CRS (welders, plumbers, electricians).

1. Take IELTS/CELPIP for English (and TEF/TCF for French if applicable).
2. Get your degree assessed (ECA) through WES or ICAS - about C$200 and 3-4 weeks.
3. Create your Express Entry profile on the IRCC portal; you get a CRS score immediately.
4. Wait for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in a category-based draw.
5. Submit your Application for Permanent Residence within 60 days.
6. PR confirmation in 6 months on average; land any time within 1 year of approval.

Express Entry is built around the no-employer pathway. The CRS gives bonus points for a job offer, but they are typically not required if you have:

• A Master's or PhD (about 30 extra points).
• B2+ French (50 points for French alone, 75 if combined with English).
• Strong English (CLB 9+ adds about 24 points).
• Canadian work experience or a sibling already in Canada.
• A Provincial Nomination - adds 600 CRS points, virtually guarantees an ITA.

Exigences linguistiques

English: IELTS General Training or CELPIP. Aim for CLB 9 across all bands (IELTS 8/7/7/7) for maximum points.

French: TEF Canada or TCF Canada. B2 (NCLC 7) unlocks 50 bonus points and category-based French draws. C1 (NCLC 9) gives 75 points combined with English.

With Express Entry, PR is the visa - you become a permanent resident at landing. Citizenship eligibility is at 3 years of physical residence within any 5-year window (1,095 days).

• Day 0: Land in Canada as a permanent resident.
• Year 3: File citizenship application once you hit 1,095 days.
• Year 4: Citizenship oath ceremony; Canadian passport.

Dual citizenship is allowed. Canada does not tax outside-Canada income for non-residents.
