Pourquoi s'installer en Allemagne ?
Germany is Europe's largest economy with a stable jobs market in engineering, IT, healthcare, and manufacturing. The 2024 Skilled Immigration Act and 2025 Chancenkarte reforms made it the easiest large EU country to enter without a pre-arranged job. English-only roles are common in Berlin tech and global firms; outside major cities, German B1 helps.
Healthcare is universal and high quality. Long parental leave and EUR 250/child monthly Kindergeld. EU passport in 6-8 years (3 years with B1 German via the 2024 citizenship reform).

La voie la plus rapide : la Carte Bleue Europeenne
If you already hold a degree (or 3+ years' IT experience with no degree), the EU Blue Card is the single fastest route. Approvals run 2-4 weeks at most Foreign Office branches, and the residence permit grants immediate full work rights.
2026 thresholds: EUR 45,934/year for shortage occupations (IT, engineering, medicine, STEM), EUR 50,700/year for standard occupations. Salaries are gross including 13th-month and bonuses.
- Receive a written job offer meeting the salary threshold.
- Employer registers the contract with the Federal Employment Agency.
- Apply at the German consulate in your home country with passport, contract, qualifications, CV.
- Land in Germany on the entry visa (3-6 months validity).
- Register address (Anmeldung) within 14 days; collect tax ID.
- Open a current account, get health insurance, apply for the residence permit at the local Foreign Office.
- Hold the Blue Card permit (typically a 4-year sticker in passport) and start work.
Permanent residency comes at 21 months if you prove B1 German, or 33 months with A1. Check the current salary thresholds before negotiating your contract.
S'installer sans offre d'emploi
Germany has two parallel routes for arriving without an offer:
- The Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) - points-based on age, language, experience, and qualifications. Score 6 of 14 possible points for a 1-year residence permit to job hunt.
- The Job Seeker Visa - older 6-month route for degree-holders with no points test, proving recognized qualification and financial means.
Both convert to the Blue Card or skilled worker permit when you sign a contract meeting salary thresholds. See our guide to work visas without a job offer.

Trouver un emploi depuis l'etranger
German employers actively hire international talent in IT, engineering, healthcare, R&D and skilled trades:
- LinkedIn Germany - filter by 'Visa sponsorship' tag.
- StepStone, XING - local equivalents, more SME and Mittelstand roles.
- Make-it-in-Germany.com - official portal, filterable by occupation and language.
- Federal Employment Agency (arbeitsagentur.de) - public listings with shortage flagging.
- Berlin Startup Jobs, GermanTechJobs.com - English-language tech roles.
Cold-applying to Mittelstand engineering firms (Bosch, Siemens, Trumpf, ZF) often beats recruiter-led searches. See our Germany sponsorship jobs guide.
Exigences linguistiques
German A1 is enough for Opportunity Card points. B1 is required for permanent residency at 21 months and for naturalization at 3 years.
English-only roles dominate in Berlin tech, multinational consulting, and academic research. Smaller cities and traditional industries expect at least B1 German.
Goethe-Institut, telc, OSD, and TestDaF are all recognised exams. Most expats reach B1 in 9-15 months with structured classes.
Voie vers la residence permanente
The Niederlassungserlaubnis (settlement permit) is the German green card. From Blue Card status:

- 27 months - with A1 German, otherwise same conditions.
- 33 months - minimum German (A1) for non-Blue Card skilled workers.
- 60 months - for Freelance/Freiberufler with B1 German.
Naturalisation is now available at 3 years with C1 German and exceptional integration, 5 years standard. EU dual nationality has been allowed since June 2024.
Impots et finances
