¿Qué es una carta de presentación de visado?

Una carta de presentación de visado es una carta de una página dirigida al oficial de visados que explica, con sus propias palabras, quién es usted, por qué viaja, cuándo viajará, dónde se alojará, cómo financia el viaje y por qué regresará a casa. Es el primer documento que lee el oficial y el único en el que usted controla la narrativa.

Las cartas de presentación no siempre son obligatorias. Schengen y Japón las exigen formalmente; EE. UU., Reino Unido, Canadá y Australia simplemente las recomiendan. Le aconsejamos encarecidamente que presente una de todos modos. No cuesta nada, lleva treinta minutos y enmarca todos los demás documentos del expediente. Sin ella, el oficial reconstruye su historia a partir de extractos bancarios dispersos, reservas de vuelos y formularios, y la historia que construya puede no ser la que usted quería contar.

Personalización de la carta por tipo de visado

  • Turismo: destaque los lugares concretos que quiere visitar, sus vínculos de retorno (trabajo, familia, propiedad) y que el viaje está totalmente financiado.
  • Negocios: destaque su puesto, la empresa o evento anfitrión, el objetivo de la reunión y el patrocinio del viaje por parte de su empleador.
  • Estudiante: destaque los datos de admisión, el apoyo financiero (beca, padres, ahorros), las fechas del programa y los planes posteriores al estudio.
  • Trabajo: destaque la oferta de empleo, sus cualificaciones acordes al puesto, las fechas del contrato y la licencia/registro del empleador.
  • Médico: destaque la dolencia diagnosticada, el hospital y médico concretos, las fechas de tratamiento y el coste del tratamiento.
  • Tránsito: sea breve: confirme el tiempo de conexión, el billete de continuación y que no saldrá del aeropuerto.

Consejos de abogados de inmigración

  1. Una página máximo. Los funcionarios disponen de 2-3 minutos por expediente. Una carta de dos páginas indica que no sabe editar; una de tres páginas va directamente al final del montón.
  2. Haga que cada fecha y detalle coincida con su formulario de solicitud (DS-160, VAF, IMM, Schengen). Una fecha desajustada basta para una denegación por "información inconsistente".
  3. Nunca mienta. La falsedad activa una prohibición permanente en virtud de la mayoría de leyes de inmigración, y las bases de datos consulares comparten marcadores de fraude entre regímenes de visado.
  4. Imprima la carta; no la escriba a mano. Las cartas manuscritas parecen poco profesionales y ralentizan a los funcionarios.
  5. Firme con tinta azul para que el oficial pueda distinguir el original firmado de la fotocopia del expediente.
  6. Conserve una copia electrónica sin firma para usted. Si la embajada pide seguimiento, querrá poder reenviar exactamente la misma redacción.
