Pourquoi une lettre de motivation USA aide (même si elle n'est pas requise)
Le Département d'État américain n'exige pas de lettre de motivation et vous pouvez techniquement demander tout visa non-immigrant sans. Malgré cela, les avocats spécialisés en immigration recommandent une lettre pour presque tous les demandeurs - en particulier ceux qui repostulent après un refus 214(b), ceux des pays « à haut risque » ou ceux dont la situation nécessite une explication (changement de carrière, années de césure, refus antérieurs).
Les agents consulaires passent deux à trois minutes par dossier. Ils ont votre DS-160, votre passeport, un bref entretien et (si vous la fournissez) une lettre d'une page. La lettre est votre seule chance d'aborder leur question implicite - « cette personne rentrera-t-elle chez elle ? » - avant que l'entretien ne commence. L'agent lit souvent la lettre de motivation pendant que vous marchez vers le guichet.
En vertu de la section 214(b) de la loi sur l'immigration et la nationalité, chaque demandeur de visa non-immigrant est présumé avoir l'intention d'immigrer. Travel.state.gov - votre lettre de motivation existe pour surmonter cette présomption.

Comment aborder le 214(b) - ce que les agents recherchent vraiment
Les refus 214(b) reposent sur une question : « Cette personne a-t-elle une raison plus forte de quitter les États-Unis que d'y rester ? » Les agents consulaires n'attribuent pas formellement de points, mais en pratique les éléments suivants pèsent le plus :
- Emploi stable et permanent avec une lettre de congé des RH précisant la date de retour.
- Propriété dans votre pays d'origine - titre de propriété de la résidence principale ou propriété d'investissement majeure.
- Famille dans votre pays d'origine - en particulier conjoint et enfants mineurs restant derrière.
- Propriété d'entreprise - entreprise enregistrée avec contrats en cours et déclarations fiscales.
- Historique de voyages - visites passées aux US, UK, Schengen, Canada, Australie ou Japon avec retour. La conformité est le signal le plus fort de la conformité future.
- Historique de compte bancaire montrant une vie financière stable sur 12+ mois, pas juste un dépôt récent important.
Cohérence DS-160 - chaque détail doit correspondre
La lettre de motivation, le DS-160 et les pièces justificatives doivent concorder sur chaque détail : orthographe du nom, date de naissance, numéro de passeport, employeur, intitulé de poste, salaire, adresse, dates de voyage, vol de retour. Une seule incohérence suffit à déclencher un refus 214(b) pour « informations incohérentes ».
- Nom : écrivez votre nom sur la lettre de motivation exactement comme sur votre passeport - même orthographe, même ordre des mots.
- Employeur : même raison sociale que sur votre DS-160. « Tata Consultancy Services Limited » sur DS-160 ne peut pas devenir « TCS » sur la lettre de motivation.
- Intitulé de poste : identique mot pour mot au DS-160.
- Dates de voyage : mêmes dates d'arrivée et de départ sur DS-160, lettre de motivation et réservation de vol.
- Adresse aux US : doit correspondre à l'adresse fournie dans la section « point de contact US » du DS-160.
Ce qu'il ne faut PAS dire dans une lettre USA
- Ne mentionnez jamais l'intention de rester, travailler, étudier (autre que sous votre type de visa) ou changer de statut.
- Ne dites jamais « Je veux vivre en Amérique » ou « J'adore le mode de vie américain ». Cela signale une intention d'immigrer et déclenche le 214(b).
- N'évoquez jamais spontanément que vous avez des proches citoyens américains ou résidents permanents - répondez honnêtement si on vous le demande, mais ne le mentionnez pas spontanément.
- Ne décrivez jamais le voyage comme « ouvert » ou « flexible ». Ayez toujours des dates exactes d'arrivée et de départ avec un vol de retour réservé.
- Ne suppliez jamais - pas de « donnez-moi cette chance s'il vous plaît » ou « c'est mon rêve ». Les agents ne sont pas émus par l'émotion ; ils sont émus par les preuves.
