Qu'est-ce qu'une lettre de motivation de visa ?
Une lettre de motivation de visa est une lettre d'une page adressée à l'agent des visas qui explique, avec vos propres mots, qui vous êtes, pourquoi vous voyagez, quand vous voyagerez, où vous séjournerez, comment vous financez le voyage et pourquoi vous rentrerez chez vous. C'est le premier document que l'agent lit - et le seul document où vous contrôlez le récit.
Les lettres de motivation ne sont pas toujours obligatoires. Schengen et le Japon les exigent formellement ; les États-Unis, le Royaume-Uni, le Canada et l'Australie les recommandent simplement. Nous vous conseillons vivement d'en soumettre une dans tous les cas. Cela ne coûte rien, prend trente minutes et encadre tous les autres documents du dossier. Sans elle, l'agent construit votre histoire à partir de relevés bancaires, de réservations de vol et de formulaires épars - et l'histoire qu'il construit n'est peut-être pas celle que vous vouliez raconter.
Modèle universel de lettre de motivation
Copiez le modèle ci-dessous, remplacez chaque section entre crochets par vos propres informations et imprimez sur du papier A4 ou US Letter ordinaire. Signez à l'encre bleue ou noire. Conservez une photocopie pour vous.

Personnaliser la lettre selon le type de visa
- Touriste : mettez l'accent sur les lieux précis que vous voulez voir, vos liens de retour (emploi, famille, propriété) et le fait que le voyage est entièrement financé.
- Affaires : insistez sur votre rôle, l'entreprise hôte ou l'événement, l'objet de la réunion et le parrainage du voyage par votre employeur.
- Étudiant : insistez sur les détails d'admission, le soutien financier (bourse, parents, économies), les dates du programme d'études et les projets post-études.
- Travail : insistez sur l'offre d'emploi, vos qualifications correspondant au poste, les dates du contrat et la licence/enregistrement de l'employeur.
- Médical : insistez sur la pathologie diagnostiquée, l'hôpital et le médecin précis que vous verrez, les dates de traitement et le coût du traitement.
- Transit : restez bref - confirmez la durée de la correspondance, le billet de continuation et le fait que vous ne quitterez pas l'aéroport.
Conseils d'avocats spécialisés en immigration
- Une page maximum. Les agents ont deux à trois minutes par dossier. Une lettre de deux pages signale que vous ne savez pas éditer ; une lettre de trois pages va directement en bas de la pile.
- Faites correspondre chaque date et détail à votre formulaire de demande (DS-160, VAF, IMM, Schengen). Une date qui ne correspond pas suffit pour un refus au motif « informations incohérentes ».
- Ne mentez jamais. La fausse déclaration déclenche une interdiction permanente en vertu de la plupart des lois sur l'immigration - et les bases de données consulaires partagent les marqueurs de fraude entre régimes de visa.
- Imprimez la lettre ; ne l'écrivez pas à la main. Les lettres manuscrites paraissent non professionnelles et ralentissent les agents.
- Signez à l'encre bleue pour que l'agent puisse distinguer l'original avec signature manuscrite de la photocopie dans le dossier.
- Conservez une copie électronique non signée pour vous. Si l'ambassade demande un suivi, vous devez pouvoir renvoyer exactement le même texte.
